The eNotes Blog Does AP stand for Absolutely Pointless

Does AP represent Absolutely Pointless My 12-year-old child started his first semester in middle school this year. In July, we all guardians were gathered together for a three-hour data course. We visited every one of the Pre-AP educators rooms,  a aggregate of seven distinctive potential course contributions. In each meeting, the message was the equivalent: you enlisted your child in ALL Pre-AP classes if your kid isnt a total sham. Pre-AP, it was (here and there not) quietly clarified, was fundamental for your youngster with the goal that the person could take AP courses in secondary school, and afterward be qualified to avoid starting courses in school. The point, evidently, was to set aside us a little cash and to (it was inferred) feel somewhat predominant about our posterity. Similar instructors who educate Pre-AP classes additionally show standard courses. In spite of the fact that our data course should disclose to us the distinction between the two sorts of classes, for all intents and purposes none  of the instructors even referenced the ordinary classes. The Pre-AP was pushed so hard it caused a parent to feel like conceding your child was as on par mentally with the Honey Boo family for basically getting some information about the distinctions. As the night rambled endlessly, I started to ponder: Whatever happened to instructing understudies at the genuine level they are at, mentally, inwardly, and socially? I pondered as well, as a school educator myself, if AP is pushed so vigorously, how can it be that I discover my first year recruits so caught off guard for the rigors of a school course? This week, the Atlanticâ published an article by John Tierney, a resigned educator and secondary school AP instructor. Like me, Tierney pondered something very similar. So why this tremendous drive into AP?  Probably the most compelling motivation is that the College Board, which sets the guidelines and distributes the AP educational plan, acquires over portion of its income from AP courses. Which may be good with everybody if secondary schools really were turning out improved and propelled students. Be that as it may, in Tierneys experience, and my own, they are not doing any such thing. Tierney explored the numerous explanations behind the disappointments of the AP projects, and some disarray about their guarantees. For example,â while AP courses in secondary school may let a school green bean quit an early on course, they regularly don't get real school acknowledge for AP classes true to form. What's more, when they do get the chance to skirt an introduction class, numerous understudies find that their AP classes in secondary school don't remotely look like the difficulties of a genuine school class, and many wish they HAD taken the standard initial school course. Another legitimate contention is Tierneys resistance to open enlistment for  AP classes.  This was the situation in my children new school. There was no legitimacy base.  No one was solicited to join in light of the fact that from high scores in grade school or an instructors proposal. What we were fundamentally told is that Pre-AP was do or die. Tierney contends that, 66% of the understudies taking my class every year didn't have a place there. Also, they hauled down the course for the understudies who did. What's more, what of the children who neglect to swim? Its quite bleak, as indicated by Tierney. He says that those classes get perpetually full as the years wear on and a few children simply cant hack it, yet they are not given the most grounded educators. Those instructors, obviously, are saved for the AP program. A great deal of these non-swimmers are minorities, who will presently confront much more deterrents to advanced education. At last, and fortifying what I have just found in my own home, the push to cover so much material so quick prompts unbending stultification a sort of thoughtless genuflection to an endorsed arrangement of study that suppresses inventiveness and free request. No big surprise when I took my Freshmen out on a bright day and we as a whole never really read Thoreau for all to hear to each other, they all looked shocked then they gradually started to unwind, grin, and appreciate the delights of learning. Unfortunately, secondary teachers can't bring their understudies down intriguing ways of learning. After all theres a test coming up.

The gatherings were thought about by the Mann-Whitney U test. The examination was conveyed at 95% certainty interim. The outcomes demonstrated that patients with sickle ailment had a fundamentally lower personal satisfaction on all subscales when contrasted with the Dutch standard populace. The theoretical of the examination is a finished upgrade. It gives clear and progressively characterized data of what's in store and what the examination is about. In any case, the goal of the investigation isn't generally expressed considering the way that it isn't referenced anyplace else in the examination separated from the theoretical. Reference Type of study Location setting Variables Framework hypothesis Study configuration Sample The examination is quantitative in nature. The quantitative factors are all around structured and clarified. Branch of Pediatric Rehabilitation of the Medical University of Bial ystok All female guardians or moms of kids with SCD who visited the outpatient facility of the investigation community at any rate one year prior were welcome to take an interest in the examination. The reliant variable: personal satisfaction of parental figures of youngsters with sickle cell illness. Free factors: financial and ethnic foundation. Control gathering: female parental figures of solid youngsters. Considering the way that the examination is quantitative in nature, the presence of both free and ward factors is advocated. The hypothetical keen of the investigation isn't talked about. This trade offs the legitimacy of the outcomes in light of the fact that there is no connection between the hypothetical writing and the consequences of the examination. Be that as it may, the investigation borrows some exact points of view from different examinations. Be that as it may, exact investigations without hypothetical point of view despite everything limit the consequences of the e xamination. Every female guardian or moms of youngsters with SCD who visited the outpatient facility of the investigation place at any rate one year prior were welcome to take part in the examination. Since the investigation is a subjective kind of study, a poll on the social and money related results of thinking about kids with an interminable disease was created as a feature of a bigger report. the polls are structured such that it took one hour to finish the entire survey. SPSS was utilized to break down the information and the outcomes were very much passed on utilizing the measurable techniques for introducing information. The examination configuration coordinates the methodology and research theory. In any case, one restrictions of the investigation configuration is that it doesn't give a lot of correlations between the autonomous, ward and control gatherings. Another impediment of the plan is that it doesn’t explain the kind of information required for the examination and rather it depicts strategies for colleting and investigating information. The investigation utilized an example of 700 from the reference populace of comparable sexual orientation and ages as the guardian of the youngsters with SCD. In any case, the nonattendance of the equation used to compute the example size makes the legitimacy of the example size being referred to. Qualities The examination has a solid research plan.

New Years Resolutions in August (Has the heat gotten to Brenda)

New Years Resolutions in August (Has the heat gotten to Brenda) August might be a strange time to talk about New Year’s Resolutions, but I got to thinking…   let’s get real: We’re three quarters through the year, there’s a fall chill in the air, and if we don’t buckle down now on those January promises, the year will be over before we know it. That’s why I took a look at my list for 2012 with the idea that I will hold myself accountable for anything on the list that has not been done. Here’s what I promised for 2012 and the current status of the task (as you read this list, I invite you to think about the standing of your own resolutions, if you’re brave enough to check the list): 2012 New Year’s Ressaylutions 1. Create a new template for my website that brings me more into the technology of 2012. It seems the work of designing a website is never done. Despite having completed this task, I’m still tweaking, and tweaking some more. Stay tuned for a new home page that will make my services easier to find. I have an idea in my head about what that will look like and will probably hire a designer to make it a reality. 2. Create new e-lists for past clients, and survey past clients. Thanks to Jeanne, my awesome Virtual Assistant (she is a real person, not a computer, don’t worry), I have been able to complete all these projects! Most exciting is that I have now invited all my clients from 2012 onto my various e-lists. And new clients will be automatically invited to join. I’m so happy that I will be reliably keeping in touch with the people I have worked with! I feel so much more relaxed now that regular correspondence is guaranteed and not a random occurrence like it was a year ago. Ahhhh…. My current project is a survey that has gone out to clients to identify my Unique Selling Proposition. This project has several phases and I’m partway through the first one now. You may have received that survey already! 3. Revise autoresponders from 2011. Also thanks to Jeanne, all my autoresponders have been converted from summaries of my articles (with links to the full article) into emails that include the complete article. I trust this format is more user-friendly and makes my messages more fun to read. 4. Publish my e-book on Kindle Wow did that one happen! As you all know, How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile (now in its 3rd edition) is trending as #1 in the Business Writing Category on Amazon. Next project is to publish a Spanish-language version of the book. An initial translation is complete and I will be working on finalizing it and converting it to Kindle format in the next few months! I will also continue to revise the e-book as changes are made in LinkedIn, and as I learn more about the site’s functionality. I am committed to staying on top of the latest developments as I educate people about How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile. 5. Report on and count success stories in 2012. See 212 Success Stories for 2012. It has been more challenging than I expected to keep track of my clients’ news…   but with my new client lists I think that will change! There are 56 successes on the list so far, and more coming soon. 6. Continue to write and share about writing issues, job search issues, and sometimes life issues that strike my fancy each week and that my readers care about.   I’ve been doing this regularlyâ€"and I hope you continue to enjoy and get value from what I write. If you have requested topics, please let me know. How DID she do it? As I look at the list above, what strikes me most is how much I have relied on other people to make my resolutions a reality. It took my Virtual Assistant Jeanne, my web designers Ivan and Meher, my publisher Brian, my clients who created and reported on their successes, and other authors and educators who sparked ideas and insights to share with all of you. The other thing I notice is that some of the tasks on my list seemed HUGE when I started them; but by taking them one step at a time, they miraculously got completed. Are there items on your resolutions list that you would be sure to complete if only you enrolled the right support? Are there items you’ve given up on because they are too overwhelming? What if you asked for help? If an appointment with a friend or a personal trainer is the only thing that will get you to the gym, there’s no shame in that! If you need a resume writer to make sure you start your job hunt, hire one! I have a great resume writer to recommend. What if you took the first small step in a larger project? Organizing one drawer is a great step if you aim to organize your house. Signing up for a LinkedIn account is the first step to having a KILLER profile. (You know where to go if you want The Essay Expert’s input in the process.) For my part, I promise to keep on plugging. It looks like I’m right on track to fulfill on my 2012 “Ressaylutions.” How about you? I wonder what we will all be up to in 2013?

Public Schools Is Not A Martial Arts - 1041 Words

Another view those that may initially be opposed to jiu jitsu in public schools is that it encourages violence. Some people may think that jiu jitsu teaches people to be more efficiently violent, and we should not teach our youths this martial art. However, Jiu jitsu, much like many other martial arts, is not a martial art that the purpose and intention of learning is violence or inflicting harm upon others. Contrary to this, people who train jiu jitsu often learn when to defend themselves should they be put in a situation where self-defense is necessary, and otherwise people implicitly learn other more valuable ways resolve issues rather than through violence. We will write a custom essay sample on Comparing or any similar topic only for you Order Now Unfortunately, in some marriages the vows aren’t taken that sacred. In the two short stories, ‘The Alchemist’s Secret†, and â€Å"Lamb to the Slaughter†, their protagonists took their vows of â€Å"til death do us part† very personal; was willing to do anything to keep their vows. In short story, Lamb to the Slaughter, an old devoted wife, Mary Maloney, waited for her husband, Patrick Maloney, to return home from work as a police officer. He arrives home around the usual time he comes home every night. This night Mary notices that Patrick seems to be out of it and is acting weird, but she just assumes he’s tired from work. Finally, Patrick exposes his reason for acting so strange. He never states exactly, but it is inferred that he is leaving her for another woman. Mary, still in shock goes to the freezer to get a leg of lamb to cook for dinner. She continues to go in as if her husband didn’t just reveal to her that he is leaving. Patrick screams to Mary not to make dinner and she snaps. She hit him in the back of his head with the frozen lamb. Mary intentionally kills her husband. She feels as though if she can’t have her husband then no one can. In addition, in the short story, The Alchemist’s Secret, a bitter married man comes into a gas lit herb shop where he thinks it’s going to be a solution to all of his problems. He hears of the famous Doctor Maximus who could make him no longer married to his cheating wife. In the herb shop Doctor puts some type of chemicals in whatever is desired of the customer to kill someone instantly with no discovery of the death in the autopsy. He wants his wife dead before he sees her fall in love with another man. He states with his face looking tight and dangerous, â€Å"I am not a man to be made a fool of†. The visitor of the herb shop feels like his wife is making a fool of him and she deserves severe punishment. The two stories had many similarities and differences. One of the major similarities in the stories was how Mary Maloney and the anonymous visitor both took the same actions after finding out of the infidelity in their marriage. The differences in the story were the character’s outlook on the death of their spouse. For example, in The Alchemist, during the talk with the Doctor, the visitor says, â€Å"No thank you†, but says it nervously. The nervousness in his voice proved he had some fear and guilt of what he had planned on doing to his wife. In addition, in Lamb to the Slaughter, after Mary Maloney killed her husband, Patrick Maloney and creating a lie to the detectives, she sits, â€Å"{in the other room and began to giggle}†. Mary Maloney giggling after killing her own husband reveals she has no regrets. In conclusion, the two short stories have similar concepts, but have different style of writing. Both couples had infidelity in their marriage and wanted revenge for their vows being broken. How to cite Comparing, Essay examples

Diet Analysis Essay Example For Students

Diet Analysis Essay Since my childhood, I have always had an aggressive appetite, and obviously, not all the meals I ate were healthy and nutritious. For a long time, I did not care much about what I ate and how my food choices and eating habits influenced my health. However, recently, I have started to pay more attention to my daily diet. In particular, I decided to track my daily meals for a week, write down everything I eat and prepare my diet analysis based on calorie intake and the amount of protein, fats, and carbohydrates consumed. It has helped me find out what my organism lacks and, on the contrary, what is redundant. While analyzing what the foods I typically eat every day are and how my eating choices change over the days, I have found out that there are some negative tendencies in my daily diet that I definitely need to change. At the same time, there are also certain eating habits that need to be further encouraged and maintained. What have I found out? First of all, my diet analysis has revealed that I consume not enough water. I thought that I drink much, so the result was a shock to me. Over the days, I systematically drank less than 1 l of plain water or a bit more. The rest of the consumed liquid was mainly tea or coffee. I know that it is important to drink more water as water can help with hair and skin. Besides, in general, drinking water makes the body work properly. If I want to make a change in my daily diet, I definitely need to increase the amount of plain water drunk every day and eliminate the amount of coffee, juices, and sodas consumed. Speaking about my overall calorie intake, it was rather unstable during the week of my diet analysis. While on some days, it was normal, on other days, it was either excessive or insufficient. For example, on Monday, my calorie intake was 648.5, while on Sunday, it was 2343.6. The matter is that on working days, I often have no time for eating. Sometimes, I choose eating at fast foods, although I know that such eating habits can lead to severe health problems. At the weekends, I have more time and can prepare meals by myself. It is important to stabilize my calorie intake and consume the required number of calories to keep my body in shape and not put on weight. Apart from the need to stabilize calorie intake, my diet analysis has also revealed some other issues. I understand that tracking my eating habits just for one week is not enough to make conclusions as over the days; my eating choices can significantly change. Still, my diet analysis can help me identify the negative tendencies and try to establish a healthier diet on a daily basis. Vitamins as integral part of the healthy life An important aspect of my diet analysis research was vitamin intake and my vitamin D level in particular. After I had reviewed my vitamin intake, I understood that the foods I ate did not include many vitamins. My vitamin D level is particularly low. It can be understood because it is winter now, and that is why my exposure to sun is low. However, not only the change in the weather can help increase my vitamin D level. One of the main sources of vitamin D is milk, and I almost never drink milk. As I do not have any allergies, I can include milk to the foods I consume every day. My favorite drink is coffee, and sometimes, I drink it too often. Instead, I can drink milk or water. Besides that, there is a possibility to eat vitamin D supplements to increase my vitamin D level. I realize that I need to do something about my eating choices and eating habits to ensure the required level of vitamin D in my organism. .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 , .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .postImageUrl , .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 , .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:hover , .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:visited , .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:active { border:0!important; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:active , .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1 .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u09604941c3b0e72000fff27eca49c0e1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Lottery Persuasive EssayWhile working on my diet analysis project, I realized that I even though I lead an active lifestyle, I do not exercise enough. Bringing more exercising into my life will definitely help me to stay in shape. In particular, I am going to add jogging to my daily routine. As the sun is the source of vitamin D, jogging will also help me to increase my vitamin D level. My research met the results My diet analysis research has shown that in general, my vitamin levels are very low. It can be explained by the fact that I eat not many vegetables and fruit. That is why based on my research; I decided to make a change in my daily diet and add more vegetables and fruit to the foods I eat. I believe that it will also help regulate my calorie intake at large. In particular, my daily diet includes almost no fruit. For example, over the days, I ate fruit just a few times. On Thursday, I drank a smoothie, and the only fruit I ate that day were the ones added to this smoothie. Another significant problem in my diet is eating too much fat. As during the week, I often eat at fast foods, it means that I eat the foods that contain trans-fat and saturated fat almost every day. For example, my overall intake of saturated fat over a week was 28.7, and this number is huge. I need to exclude fast food from my daily diet as eating too much trans fat, and saturated fat can not only lead to obesity but also provoke serious health problems. To sum up, I should say that my diet analysis research has turned out to be very helpful and useful for me. With its help, by tracking my eating habits and the foods I eat for a week, I identified the key problems in my daily diet and made some significant decisions. For instance, I found out that I drink not enough water. I decided to work on it and develop a habit of drinking the required amount of plain water every day instead of drinking too much coffee. Water is essential for the overall health and well-being, and thus, drinking enough water will be my priority. Besides that, I understood that my vitamin D level is rather low. I will do everything to increase this level by drinking milk and eating other foods that contain vitamin D. Also; my diet analysis showed that all my vitamin levels are low because of consuming not enough fruit and vegetables. I do not like fruit very much, but I will try to add as many of them as is needed for my daily diet to stay healthy and ensure vita min intake. What is more, I eat too much trans-fat and saturated fat, and I want to change my eating habits and eliminate the number of fats consumed in my daily diet.
